One Ball, Two Strikes
Ben still refuses to forgive Felicity even after it’s clear that she didn’t
have sex with Randy after getting really drunk at a frat party and passing out
in his bed. Ben is starting to look pretty extreme since he won’t even talk to
Felicity and has ignored her for the last week. Felicity is getting pretty
desperate and doesn’t know what else to say to Ben except to keep repeating
that nothing happened.
Felicity happens to run into Randy, so on a whim she asks him to talk to Ben.
Later Randy tries to tell Ben that nothing happened, but Ben goes ballistic
asking him if he kissed Felicity. Ben grabs Randy by the throat and punches him
so many times he almost gives him a concussion.
On a lighter note, Noel is convinced that Richard is gay. Noel tries not to
bring it up, but when Richard asks him what’s going on, he blurts out that he
knows he’s gay. Richard gets really angry and storms out. Later, Richard
admits in a surprise turn that he’s not gay, he’s just a virgin, that’s
why he’s so nervous around girls and always exaggerating about his exploits.
He’s never even kissed a girl, not even in 6th or 8th grade.
Meanwhile, Sean was just supposed to have an out patient surgery for a tumor
in his testicle, but when he goes to see the doctor he’s informed that it
could be cancer and he’s going to need surgery to have his testicle removed.
Sean tries to lie about it because he’s afraid, so his friends throw him a
party to celebrate. There are some nice references to guys losing their “gumballs”
and Sean listens squirming in his seat. Meghan finds out pretty quickly that he’s
lied when the doctor calls to reschedule his surgery. In a touching moment, she
tells him that he can’t run away from this, and she doesn’t want to have a
story in her life where someone she loved could have lived if he’d gotten
help. She asks him to at least do it for her. So far Sean and Meghan are looking
like the most realistic and together couple on the show.
In a more campy moment of the show, Sean uses his new insight from having to
face death to tell Ben that he’s out of line. First he tries to offer him a
pen that used to belong to his grandfather, “in case he doesn’t make it.”
It’s a terrible moment to watch; it’s so forced. But then, Sean tells Ben
that the most important things in life are the people you love and that he
shouldn’t push them away. He also points out that Ben is out of control. He’s
filled with a rage that has nothing to do with Felicity, but he’s taking it
out on her.
Noel is off busy fixing the computer of a dance major (special guest star
Tyra Banks) over whom he drools the entire time. In a typical moment, he tries
to get a closer look of her changing oh-so-conveniently with the bathroom door
open, but when he leans too far he knocks over his drink on the computer.
Meanwhile, Sean faces his upcoming surgery. For the first time he turns his
own camera (he’s doing a documentary) on himself. In a somewhat awkward
moment, he confesses his fears of not making it and the possibility that the
cancer has already spread. Later, Sean undergoes surgery and is one testicle
lighter, but doing pretty good. His friends make him laugh with a bag of
peanuts.
